Health Psychology

Health Psychology seeks to understand and treat the psychological aspects of physical health problems (e.g. addictions; acute and chronic diseases including cancer, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease; stress-related symptoms including gastrointestinal problems, migraine headaches and chronic pain; reproductive problems including infertility and miscarriage) in children and adults.

Sometimes referred to as Behavioral Medicine, it bridges the gap between medicine and psychology. A variety of therapeutic techniques are used, including cognitive- behavioral and relaxation therapies, supportive group therapy and individual psychotherapy. Strategies such as stress reduction, pain management and strengthening coping skills are implemented according to individual need.
